This. If pineapple gets damp and is allowed to sit it gets a bit slimy (although not really in a bad way). Also over-ripe pineapple is kinda like that naturally. The only real way to be sure is to eat a piece. If the "syrup" tastes like straight sugar then its canned. If it tastes citrusy then its natural. Note that over-ripe pineapple is extremely sweet anyway though. Under-ripe pineapple is sometimes so acidic it sometimes tastes like a lemon.
