Don't feel too bad, my win ratio was only like 10% when I still played, although most losses were to the final bosses so no shame there.

I think the biggest problem is most players probably aren't aggressive enough, especially with Iron Clad. You definitely want to take on as many elites as you can on the first & second floors.

A lot of the game is learning at least general enemy patterns as well; such as the fact that the birdmen on the first floor raise their strength every turn, so target them first.

I've found that the cards you get dealt on the first floor will set up the 'theme' of your game, and that will determine how you defend yourself later on. Ironclad gets Barricade? Gonna be a Barricade run. Silent gets After Image? Hope you get a Shiv run. Defect gets Frost orbs? Gonna be a Frost Turtle.

First 3~5 battles actually should be enough to tell you which deck the game is giving you.* If you can't recognize combos that quickly; then go to the glossary in the main menu and look at the cards for a while, stare at'em, read'em, from top to bottom and bottom to top. You don't have to memorize them but try to learn enough so that you know what cards work together just by looking at their artwork; without reading them anymore.

*Also pay attention to the relic you get from your first elite; it might tell you what deck to build as well.
