19. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

Johnbobb: 2
Scarlet: 10
Genny: 12
JONA: 13
Snake: 16
Stifled: 17
Charon: 17
Inviso: 20
Karo: 25
Red: 29

Total Score: 161

Johnbobb: I remember loving this movie as a kid, but Im shocked how well this held up. Its one of the first TV show movies I can say is not just good for a TV movie, but a legitimately solid animated film. The comedic timing is dead-on, the animation is fun, and the plot is mostly focused (lacking the irrelevant side character subplots that dumb down a lot of these movies). Its endlessly quotable (and memeable, if thats your thing). The David Hasselhoff cameo is hilarious and the songs are actually fun (again, a rarity for TV movies, with a few exceptions). Id be more than willing to watch this a few times over.

Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo thought a list of movies that clearly have down a disservice to society, dumbing down the quality of comedic content in America with obnoxious prattling and simpleton joketelling was worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you find yourself at the realization that movies big coup is a terrible cameo by David Hasselhoff. That is the quality of this movies humor. Theres nothing here involving wit and everything here involving using a ballpeen hammer view of comedy when sometimes a scalpel will do. Voices in this show especially are overacted to the point of grating irritation and the plot is just nonexistent. Its not good. Its bad. Thats all I can really say here.
Rating: 28/100

Genny: I honestly don't have much to say about this one, except that I'm glad it was made when the show was still popular and didn't become the crapfest it is today.

JONA: Even as a kid, when I did like Spongebob, I didn't like this movie. I actually like it a bit more now but it's easy to see why I didn't. Spongebob's a lot more immature here than he was in the show, well, the episodes of it before the movie, to drive in the point and yeah it can be a bit grating. That being said the movie is still some dumb fun and I got some laughs from it. The Goofy Goober ending scene is pretty great.

Snake: As much as I hate the character of SpongeBob, Ill give this movie some credit. Though the two leads of SpongeBob and Patrick get grating real quick, the main meat of the plot was enough to keep me going. Theres nothing particularly funny but It got a few smiles and chuckles here and there. The animation is also good.

Stifled: I had zero expectations for this movie and it wasalright. It was appropriately wacky and fit the mold of the show really well. It also increased the scope of the show and showed us a greater depth of the underwater area. Things like the Hasselhoff cameo, and the cute girl from the Spider-Man movies having a part at the end were pretty great too. And that scene with Bob and Pat under the heat lamp wassurprisingly dark and hard to watch. But there were also glaring flaws, the most obvious of which was the shunning of the supporting cast. I dont watch SpongeBob for SpongeBob. I like Mr. Krabbs, Squidward, Sandy, etc. They were relegated to being hypnotized and sidelined while the two most obnoxious characters got 90% or more of the screen time. Characters like Dennis and the bar brawlers cut the monotony, but I missed my favorites by the end of the movie.

Traviss Opinion: Travis sat on the couch with me and watched the entire movie, but said absolutely nothing. He didnt make a sound. So he either really enjoyed it, or was thoroughly confused by the whole thing and didnt know what to say. Either way, Id say it was a success!
