Alright, I guess it's up to me to play devil's advocate.

Are there any examples of what new things companies want to use asbestos for? Asbestos is only dangerous when it can go airborne or otherwise is disturbed. I wouldn't be shocked if there are safe applications in industry, but I can't imagine any reason consumer asbestos products should ever exist again. They aren't going to go back to putting the stuff in buildings, surely, so what do they want to do with it?

For what it's worth, any of you who have done lab work in chemistry class have almost certainly handled a safe form of asbestos, but I think even those uses are being phased out.
