That certainly does not match the data in the studies that Hughes uses. It would be very laborious and time consuming to fully look into all of this. You'd basically have to do your own research project to figure out which studies to use and which ones to disregard. the primary source he seems to cite is Being Black, Living in Red. I don't have that book, but I know it tracks a cohort for longer than 5 years.
