To be fair, most of modern Western culture is pretty much predicated on constantly seeking one form of escapism or another at all times. We treat work as a burden that must be endured and media as something we seek out to fulfill ourselves. There's very few people in the population as a whole who are eschewing media entirely and having their own adventurous life.
