The thing is, a lot of the people here clearly have various social anxiety disorders. This is what makes them uncomfortable doing something like going to see a movie alone. Unfortunately, they don't always remember that their feelings on any given subject are not typical.

While you're not necessarily wrong, I'd argue that the idea that people who go to movies alone are somehow flawed because they can't find someone to go with is pretty strongly ingrained in culture as a whole, and plenty of people who are otherwise fairly well-adjusted can easily feel that way. I'd definitely say I know far more people who wouldn't be willing to go to the movies alone than I do people who would, and I'm talking about people who are otherwise extremely well-adjusted or otherwise socially adept (especially since most of the people I know at this point in my life are married and have kids). And Western media in general has portrayed that idea for decades, sort of underlining the idea that you're a loser if you see movies alone.

If anything, a case could even be made that the antisocial trend present in the average "Internet-er" might make them MORE inclined to see movies alone, if only because the awkwardness and anxiety of trying to find someone to go with in the first place outweighs the stresses of simply going alone. Though admittedly the more likely scenario there is that they just don't go at all, and pirate the movie on the Internet later because they feel like the world owes them something.
