Some people just prefer not to take the risk. She already had her children so she didn't need her breasts anymore for their intended function. She had them removed and can have reconstructive surgery if she wants. It's really not a big deal. It's better than developing cancer and hoping you've caught it early enough even with vigilant screenings. What if she were to get a type of cancer that was very aggressive and spread very quickly between screenings? It could have been avoided had she removed her breasts knowing she had an 87% chance of developing cancer because she did genetic testing.
