On the topic of really good lower rarity units, M14 is one of the best units in the game. She's a pretty common 3* RF who still regularly beats my G41 for MVP at level 100. With no formation buff. I can't remember the last time I saw a Jaeger actually fire it's sniper at my SMGs. I can vouch for this too.
