Mexico is a shithole -- corrupt government, massive levels of violence, whole towns seceding, etc -- so that's definitely off the list, despite being probably the most significant nation there. Malaysia is also heavy on crime and corruption. Maldives is a great vacation spot, iirc, but not much else. Mauritania you mostly hear in the news in regards to kidnappings (and, while googling to double-check that, I learned it was the last country in the world to outlaw slavery... which it did in 1981 >_>). Madagascar is supposedly a decent vacation spot but, again, not really much else. Ditto for Marshall Islands. Malawi and Mauritus I hadn't heard of.
