The overall cause of Bernie losing the nomination was getting less votes. Why did he get less votes? It might have been that his platform was less popular with primary voters. It might have been that the Clinton name carried a lot of weight. It might have been Hillary herself being a more appealing candidate to more primary voters.

And it might have been the psychological edge of nearly every superdelegate pledging to Clinton almost immediately.

Of course, it might have been all of these things in different amounts. Getting rid of superdelegates only really deals with one of them, and I really don't think Bernie would have won even if superdelegates didn't exist.
