Also remember that there's no timeouts in soccer. In the first half when Germany is starting to pull away, they don't really have time to convene and just be like "should we stop scoring?" At that point if you have a chance to score a goal in the world cup semifinals you're taking it. At halftime, the team had a chance to really dissect what it was that was happening and make the conscious decision "let's ease off the gas a little bit" I mean they can't just let brazil have the ball 100% of the time from then on, they still have to play the game. That's why they scored 2 more times. If they just stopped doing anything completely that would have been equal humiliation. They needed to walk a fine line between playing too hard and not playing hard enough.
