To be fair, a person who is irresponsible in being environmentally friendly affects other people because we all live in the same environment. A persons individual dietary habits, however, generally do not affect others as significantly and therefore has less of a reason to be within the governments jurisdiction to regulate. The idea that the government is supposed to act like some nanny and protect us from making bad choices is ludicrous to me, thats just not what the government is there for (unless you believe in an authoritative government), if anything its there for us to have the right to make the bad choices we do.
A large group of Fat folks affects you monetarily in that it raises your overall Health Insurance Premiums, ergo costing you money in the long run.

Fat Folks cost more to transport around, ergo burning of more fossil fuels, which in turn hurts you indirectly.

Anyways, people can still "Over Eat" and still get fat if they want to.

Thats why I said not as significantly, I realize theres obviously some personal downsides to an obese population, but lets not pretend its anywhere near as significant as having a population thats mostly environmentally unfriendly. Also, as posted earlier this topic, the data shows obese people smokers cost less in the long run in terms of medical costs. Also, if youre going to regulate what people can eat, why just stop there, why not just regulate food portions as well? In NYC for instance, restaurants arent allowed to serve fountain drinks over a certain size.
