wait til you find out about the whole fortnite thing where if you associate your account with the ps4, you are locked to the ps4 and cannot play your account on any other platform.

but fortnite is shit, so idc.

Regardless of one's opinions on Fortnite, this really is not a precedent anyone should want Sony to set. If they don't want cross-play, that's one thing, but messing with people's third party accounts without warning to discourage them from switching systems is absolutely not okay.

I don't play online all the time and when I do there's usually enough people to find a game unless it's something obscure. Makes little sense to add even more.

-In the case of more obscure or older games, it makes finding matches easier and increases the variety of people you play with
-It allows you to play with friends who have different systems (this is especially important for games like Minecraft where multiplayer with friends is so much better than multiplayer with randoms)

On the consumer end, the only downside is potentially bringing in more hackers if PC's included in the crossplay, since PC's a much easier platform to hack games on. That can be mitigated by effective anti-cheat policies from the developer. For the platform owner, the downside is that people no longer have to buy their platform.
