If you were going to take over a person's body, would you want them to have strong skills or no skills? He wants his vessel to be strong. This is also why he doesn't just take over the body right away and brings him home to train him so he gets stronger.

A lot of that stuff should be innate to Orochimaru. The fact that Sasuke knows or doesn't know how to fight seems irrelevant because Orochimaru knows how to fight and, when he takes over, he'd be using his own skills. And, tbh, the biggest part of wanting his body was for the kekkei genkei. Or was he really just testing to see how well the eyes themselves worked?

Otherwise, I can kinda see wanting to train him for physical strength -- because it saves work down the road -- but it seems like most of Sasuke's value is just in that kekkei genkei, which was also true of Kimimaru.

Also, wasn't part of the reason why Orochimaru hadn't taken Sasuke's body at the beginning because he had recently transferred into a new body (because he ran out of time while waiting for Sasuke to be brought to him) and there was a cooldown on that ability? Stuff like the training seemed intended more to groom Sasuke into choosing to be the next host, since it was first used to lure Sasuke to Orochimaru's side and then make him loyal enough to agree to be consumed.
