SSB 64 to Melee was 2 years.
Melee to Brawl was 7 years.
Brawl to Smash 4 was 6 years. (Two different versions of Smash 4 exist too...)

4 years isn't that early imo.
Would Smash 4 have released sooner if the 3DS version didn't exist?

So like I said, it'as basically arriving 2-3 years too soon. Which is compounded by the fact that DLC extended the feeling of when Smash 4 was actually "finished" in comparison to previous ones.

But the real odd thing is not a new Smash announcement, but the fact that it's apparently coming out THIS YEAR. That's a radical departure from the long hype-build up that Nintendo likes to cultivate for the series. Which is why I still think this will ultimately be a GotY edition port of Smash 4, rather than Smash 5 proper.

But I guess we'll see soon.
