The idea behind that is that you are more likely to do something debilitating or harmful to your company out of vengeance if you know in advance you are getting fired... But on the other hand, you could tell your employer you intend to leave after 2 weeks and they could go out of their way to make your last 2 weeks miserable out of spite.
