I'm not sure why you'd even put this to a vote instead of just doing the right thing. A laptop is an expensive item and you should contact the district to see if they want it back (and, if they're being responsible, they should take it back no matter what then sell it if they can't use it). The fact that they're too incompetent (again, government at work) to even think of tracking the expensive items they let people use isn't a free pass to just keep those items.

I'm the guy whose taxes paid your salary.... or, if you were in either my district or state, I would be (or, I suppose, if the program is paid for by federal dollars, I was paying for it). At any rate, nice attempt at changing the topic to when what you're thinking of doing isn't merely morally wrong, but tantamount to (or perhaps literally) theft.
