It's a vegetable.

Tomatoes are fruits.

Most vegetables are botanical fruits. It's not something unique to tomatoes.

No, tomato is literally a fruit. It's objectively not a vegetable.

Tomatoes don't taste like fruit, they don't have the nutrients that a fruit does, and you don't put them in a fruit salad.

Here you go:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato

While tomatoes are botanically berry-type fruits, they are considered culinary vegetables as an ingredient or side dish for savory meals.[3]

Tomatoes are fucking vegetables, just like you originally learned. The only people who push back on this are people who aren't aware of the whole botanical fruit/culinary vegetable thing that applies to a large swath of vegetables.
