I was 7 or 8 years old at the time My mom had recently remarried and my new step dad was constantly criticizing me for acting like a wuss and pushing my mom to tell me to toughen up and defend myself physically when kids started being mean. I think I was angry and honestly hurt by all the constant pushing and being told I needed act tough so I figured I would show them by acting like one of the bullies. Thats just the reason I did it though, and its hardly an excuse. Even then I think I knew it was wrong. --- If they drag you through the mud, it doesnt change whats in your blood ...
