It's a cinematic universe...of which this is a culmination of events playing out for the past 9 years.

Basically...if they'd actually made the movie so that it didn't require watching any previous MCU movies...then they'd probably not have made the movie because it's whole POINT was to end the common thread story that had tied the previous movies together.

People who went in wanting a standalone movie at this point are clueless and probably just a little bit dense...I'm GLAD they ignored the needs of these people.

This is pretty much the worst response to criticism. "Hey, it's SUPPOSED to be shitty!"

This is like saying Deathly Hallows pt 2 was a bad movie cause you had to watch the first 7 HP movies haha.

Also the problem lies with the way North American TV is mostly set up. People in the USA seem to hate long plot lines in TV, thats why most TV shows are very episodic.

What?

Breaking Bad
The Sopranos
Handmaid's Tale
Westworld
Game of Thrones
The Leftovers
The Walking Dead
etc...

Shit, these days long plot lines are the most beloved of all TV shows the main reason they were uncommon back in the 90s or earlier was due to the fact that there was very few ways to get caught up. So if your friend tells you about a show and its in season 3 back in the 90s watching the first two seasons was a pain in the ass.

Even with TV shows, that's a problem with many of them, that the longer they go on the more inaccessible they tend to be for new entrants. The idea of art is to be able to connect with your audience. That is the essence of any criticism of movies - that it fails to connect with its audience. I think only a fanboy who whacks off to comic books all day is the one that doesn't understand legit criticism of film. They think the only valid form of criticism is if there is some error or difference from the way the comic books presented something. Which to someone who understands film, is not a problem at all. In fact I'd expect there to be differences in a different medium.
