It's possible some employee took it out and messed with it, but if they took it home wouldn't the store have known? Did the packaging look fucked up? Stuff like that is hard to re-pack with the factory-sealed look Everything looked totally legit. Package was nice and clean...everything was all packed in nice and neat. Hell the foam wrapping that the unit came in was (looked) unmolested and all the cords and what not looked like factory. --- It's obvious what the problem is.
