80+ hrs a week? are you serious? may not be accurate

well ok, 80+ might be a tad of an exaggeration lol, but the long term trend of Japanese salarymen working 70 hours or more per week, racking up 100+ hours of overtime per month, being overly stressed and often committing suicide as a result is well documented.

They work all those hours and dont get crap done. http://www.jcer.or.jp/eng/pdf/kenho070602e.pdf

If we look at productivity per hour, the Japanese workers are only about 35% as efficient as their American counter parts.

Because when people are forced to work that many hours, their productivity goes down. There are places that are going for a 6 hour or less workday now. Sounds real nice.

i totally agree light, very accurate

Its truly a problem of their own making. Its their culture to not want to leave before the boss. While the actual day may end at 5, its a waiting game for them after that. Otherwise, people in the office may feel that they dont care about the collective. Ironically, I see a lot of posts defaming capitalism when that isnt really the cause of the problem in Japan.
