I'm saying that punching a Nazi has little to nothing to do with your ability to "beat them in a debate". The mistake is treating arguments as formal debates. Ad hominem is a fallacy, but is fairly effective if you're arguing with someone and just need to win over a crowd. If my friend got into an argument with someone and it ended with them getting punched and no one around cared, I don't think I would tell my friend he "won" the argument, no matter how logical his points were. --- ...
