Yep, she had a very strange path to becoming the badass magical girl we know and love. http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/Triangle_Heart_3 http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/Lyrical_Toy_Box An early prototype of Nanoha's story originated in the bonus Lyrical Toy Box game outside of the main visual novel's continuity. Nanoha's older brother and sister are actually main characters in the original VN (and the OVA version of said VN) and Nanoha herself has minor appearances in the VN. Those two appear in the first season of the Lyrical Nanoha anime in minor roles, but once the franchise got popular and formed its own identity, most of the ties to the VN besides Nanoha herself were eventually phased out. The only anime series I can think of that may have possibly had a stranger path than this to becoming an anime is BlackRock Shooter. Also, Lyrical Nanoha was apparently the very first non-eroge work that Seven Arcs Studios ever animated.
