If you're confused or getting mixed signals from this discussion, let me put this another way: Sword Art Online is both the most overrated anime and the most underrated anime of this generation at the same time. It's extremely polarizing. Most of its haters say it's irredeemable trash with no redeeming qualities, while most of its fans hail it as one of the greatest anime of all time. In reality, it's neither. It's a solid, above-average series, with some glaring flaws, that can still be enjoyed quite a bit if you can look past those flaws. But very few people who watch the show see that middle ground, and they either see "it's amazing" or "it's shit" without looking at the other side. If you want to give it a chance to see for yourself, then go for it.
