i always figured trump was using his tariff proposal as a negotiating tool, because his whole strategy is "I broke something. Want me to fix it? Give me what I actually want."

the response from china indicates "No, fix it or we'll break a ton of other shit", which will either lead to a lot of broken shit as trump keeps upping the ante (bad) or no progress on what he actually wants as he backs down (nbd)

investors sold shares premarket and over the last few days/weeks on fears of the former, but I expect them to figure he'll just take the L in the intermediate/longer term.
