This is not what your statistics indicate.

These stats only show from 1986 onwards, when the trend was already headed in that direction.

Even then, it wasn't a dramatic climb from 1986 until today.

Additionally, there was a major weapons ban in 1986 specifically so it is natural that there would be fewer guns manufactured then.

number of guns in the US is cumulative. it does show the same thing (especially with the steep manufacturing increases) but the data is not displayed in the same way

guns don't disintegrate. they still exist
