This is not what your statistics indicate.

These stats only show from 1986 onwards, when the trend was already headed in that direction.

Even then, it wasn't a dramatic climb from 1986 until today.

Additionally, there was a major weapons ban in 1986 specifically so it is natural that there would be fewer guns manufactured then.
