Coincidentally not many shootings happened after either. Shootings went on the rise AFTER gun control was instilled. (Semi automatics were available since late 1800's.) The Thompson Machine gun, a fully automatic military grade portable machine gun, was publicly available with zero background check or any gun control whatsoever, since 1921.
