As a strict conservative? In places with sky high taxes? Fuck yeah public universities should be free of cost to students. If you live in California or New Jersey and your family is paying through the teeth in taxes and you're going to do the same if you continue to live there, you've already paid for that public university. A state telling a family that pays $18,000/yr in property taxes and another $20,000 in state income taxes "You want to come to a state university? No problem, just give us $7,000 a year more" is absolutely ridiculous.

In Florida, with no income taxes? No, pay up if you want higher education. In... New York? Your family has already paid enough in taxes to cover your admission to a public school.
