Its a move to strengthen, and expand steel production domestically and depend less on foreign trade by discouraging it via tariffs. There may be some growing pains but I'm ok with this. Why not keep the money here rather then pay China for steel we have the ability to produce?

We don't have the ability to produce it at lower cost.

Corporations chose to purchase it at lower rates from a foreign competitor- which is a pseudo-ally and potentially a threat to the United States. I don't see why we should strengthen their economy for short term gain.

I don't see why we should be hurting out own economy just to hurt theirs. The whole point of trade is to benefit both parties.

Ideally, I see potential here. Create tax breaks for companies that purchase domestically until the cost of production evens out. Again, we really don't want to encourage China's economy and create further dependence on them for raw materials, especially in an industry we once dominated.
