Consider: in the last 15 minutes, the Russell 2000 fell by around a quarter percent. Looking up RUT, which tracks the index, you'd never know. It last updated at 12:13! Looking up IWM, which is an ETF that trades at the index's value, you see the decline. Obviously you can get a real live update within a trading platform...but those tend to kick you out if you idle.
