To even have the chance at a defence vs. being completely helpless. What would someone want in that situation? There is also a significant difference between a trained officer engaging a gunman and a teacher that took a few hours at a range. Arming teachers is putting the weight of potentially having to make the same decision the trained officer does on their shoulders.
