I also think it's interesting that politics and our own personal lives are becoming so much more disparate in terms of ethics. For example, I think most of us would never do anything grossly unethical/immoral to, say, gain more money or advance our careers. However, if you are a senator who believes universal healthcare is going to save millions of lives, wouldn't the perceived benefits make it something worth doing anything in your power to achieve (unethical or not)?
