i have no idea how Darmik's post relates to mine.

"Conservatives" can't simultaneously be constantly challenging leftists to debate and ALSO be guilty of being "historically resistant to having their ideas challenged."

.... but i didn't endorse what Darmik said at all so i dont know why that relates to me or what I said? you sure have a hard on for picking arguments with me lately.

I'm not saying you did. I'm lamenting the challenge on this board of dealing with the fact that liberals have wildly different default assumptions about what conservatives do, which can make it incredibly difficult to have a reasonable discussion because people often jump in to conversations with contradictory assumptions.

if you expect every single Liberal to have a universally accepted definition of what Conservatives are and what they do then I don't know what to say.

in general i don't like to frame things in the "Conservative vs Liberal" dynamic because it's unproductive. however, when someone comes in and makes some ridiculous claim like "Conservative are always open minded bastions of free thought and Liberals are always closed-minded mental midgets" I feel a need to object. and i don't even object on the grounds of "only Conservatives do that", I objected on the grounds of "Both sides do that, shut up".
