Save manually. A. LOT. Game tends to crash pretty often, and some quests do bug out, so keep a decent number of spaced back up saves (5 or more). 3. Energy weapons are good. Especially since that includes flamers --- "Evil is what you make of it. Bind it to a higher purpose and you would have altered its nature.
