After spending some time listening to AOA, BESTie, and Dalshabet (and watching their interviews, and live performances, etc.), I think I've realized why AOA was by far the most popular of those three. That's all good and true, but here you can see a very simple but powerful reason why AOA was popular: https://i.pinimg.com/236x/56/e9/11/56e91108cba72b95048c2c6f2346c6d6.jpg Seriously, don't underestimate the power of a nice pair of jeans. Kpop is image, man. At least this part of it is. The reasons why groups succeed or not sadly often don't have that much to do with the members, it's circumstances beyond their control, or just plain luck. If there was some magic formula everyone would just follow it. There's no such thing. There's too many groups, and you have to catch a lucky break. Or several. You're right about the agency though. If the group is managed by an agency with resources, a more prestigious agency with clout and connections, well that gives them more opportunities to catch those breaks, makes it easier to get them. It's luck, luck for your image. Look at Bestie, or any group, why were they not successful? Actually Bestie has a pretty weird, controversial history. http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2015/01/pann-story-behind-split-between-exid.html https://onehallyu.com/topic/131774-bestieexid-split-and-what-doesnt-add-up-from-that-pann-post/ https://www.soompi.com/2016/08/03/besties-uji-reveals-left-exid/ Shrug. Instead, EXID have found success, at least enough to the point that they're still around. Why? Because they came out a better group after Bestie left? No. AOA bounced back okay from their scandal. It was a dumb thing that no one really cared about that much. --- Hottest K-Pop Girl Group http://challonge.com/96st4ysk ... Copied to Clipboard! |
