Can someone (Allen?) explain to me how "subdomain of GameSpot" translates to "more revenue to spend on FAQs?"

It's complicated and I'm not the best person to explain it (and really it's more of a "company secret" anyway), but basically it revolves around how internet advertising works.

Can you direct us to someone who would know?!? We want answers.

I got you. Let's put it as simple as I can...

Advertising networks typically work on tiers (to some degree). Reach a certain threshold for traffic and you're able to use their platform. Increase your traffic and you can get better rates. For example, the promoted links by Taboola you see on these forums have a min. 500k impressions per month to be considered for their ads.

In the eyes of advertisers, there are 2 separate websites right now: GameFAQs and GameSpot.

By moving GameFAQs to a subdomain of GameSpot, they can combine their traffic metrics for advertisers. They go up a tier and can get paid more for ads.

In reality, it's a lot more complex than this and can work very differently depending on the advertiser but this should cover the concept at least.

Hope that helps, it's not like you can expect anything useful from @SBAllen
