That's what brooms and mops are for. Every Saturday I clean my floors. It's called housekeeping. I have never known a single human being in my entire life who doesn't keep their shoes on inside. No family, immediate or extended. No friends or their families. No coworkers when they've had a thing at their homes. None. Ever. Anywhere.

Have you never been to Canada, then?


It's possible he hasn't done much travelling. There are cultural expectations, at least outside of the US, where not taking off your shoes when entering a home is considered very disrespectful. It seems to be a divided view with the Americans here, though.
