Most people seem to just be attacking Ziggi just to attck him. I understand what you're going through. If you have to, rehoming the cat with your mom would probably be best. Even if it's just a little while until the cat is good around the baby. Protecting the baby is first priority. And like someone said, you don't always know how a pet will act around a baby and to change.

the baby is still small, so the idea of the cat smothering her by accident (especially the one time we caught him trying to lay on her while we were making dinner) is not out of the question, especially since he's so big.

i seriously doubt he'd ever intentionally harm her, but that doesn't mean he can't harm her accidentally, ok?

Do what every other responsible pet owning parent manages to and close the door to the baby's room. Only let the cat there with supervision. I'm not saying let the cat have a baby sleeping free for all but if you shut the door you keep the cat away and keep the cat from waking her.

Sounds like your cat will have a better life elsewhere anyway so that's good

Maybe the baby wasn't in her room. It's possible the baby might have been in a bassinet in the living room. Or somewhere close by. I don't remember if he said the baby was in her room or not, so I apologize if I'm wrong.
