Anyway, arguing from the extreme isn't fallacious in and of itself, as it ensures people assert boundary conditions. The issue is when the exaggerated form seemingly replaces the core argument.


Yeah I couldn't think of a good example off the top of my head. I wanted to say strawmanning, but I like your phrase better. Arguing from the extreme matches the mark more.
