Pretty perfect since most stores have a sign saying if you leave without checking your change then tough shit. You have no responsibility to walk back in and give them excess.

You knew how much it was supposed to be when you went to check out, regardless if they do or not. (That's what those labels/stickers they put with the numbers are for. Before you say 'well it didn't have one when I went to get the item!', there is this thing called 'asking how much it is' before deciding to check out.)

Believe it or not, the sticker price isn't binding and if the cashier asks for more or less then that is what the cashier has decided is the value of the items. The owner may disagree on the value but you weren't buying from the owner, you bought from a middle man. This means the cashier owes the owners the missing value for underselling their product.
