I'm not sure how much I'm actually saving, since the state and local deductions are going away which is going to be painful given that I live in one of the worst states for taxes. This bill will add $1.5 trillion to the debt. Republicans are claiming it will somehow pay for itself. I don't know any economists who believe that. In exchange for the huge debt increase, companies and the rich get a tax break. Most people will see nothing or almost nothing. Also, while the company tax break is permanent, the break to individuals lasts five years. Because, you know, it's not like they can cut spending to balance a budget or something >_> Budgets can only be balanced by raising taxes and taxes need to be raised year after year to support that increased spending. Otherwise, it's worth remembering that economists are more or less homogenous in their thinking so it's not always reliable because it's effectively groupthink.
