Yeah I'm pretty hyped for this game. I was disappointed in Nioh, like it was a solid game, but it also felt like it was just aping Souls, and everything you fought felt like a sponge, which kind of just bored me of the game. This looks like a better take on the Souls formula.
Yeah, I really wanted Nioh to be a samurai Souls. I enjoyed its combat, though the different styles were pretty irrelevant imo. But it lacked the charm and atmosphere that Souls has. Played for about 30 hours, maybe 3/4 through the story, before I just kind of sat back and was like, "I'm not getting what I wanted to get from this game." I don't know, hard to describe. I don't dislike Nioh, but...yeah.
i had the same feeling. for me it's because nioh copied all of dark soul's gameplay elements but didnt take the intangible elements that make these fun.
like for example you have these long levels where you need to find shortcuts and stuff, but the areas in nioh are dull, not atmospheric, and not fun to explore, so this just felt like busy work. same for stuff like enemies, where the difficulty and mechanics are there, but nioh was loaded with enemy types that just weren't cool looking or fun to fight (like those fucking wheel guys).
and so on and so on. the more i played of Nioh the more I realized WHY i liked dark souls
