Yes, some cats will bite/scratch you, but thats the thing: they cant kill you. A domestic cat has never killed a human being. A cat cant even kill a human baby. I feel actually safe around a cat. I never feel 100% safe around a dog, doesnt matter the breed. My friend used to have this Golden Retriever and kept her at the apartment. This dog would always bark at me and look me in the eyes as if it wanted to bite my ass. Sorry, I dont want to own anything that could eat my guts for breakfast.
Plus, dogs are slaves. I dont want a slave. Doesnt matter if it is a happy/loyal slave.
How weak would you need to be to be afraid of a female golden retriever? Sure, they could maul a small kid to death but a female GR is doing fuck all to an adult. I own a female GR, I could kill that dog almost instantly if I needed to, but I won't because she's a sweetheart and wouldn't hurt a fly (she actually plays with bugs, and especially loves beetles, I've never seen her kill one). She loves to fight with me but is super gentle with my daughter, she will just roll around at my daughters feet and lick at her.
How weak? Look at the size of that thing. Cmon. Even if that fucker couldnt kill me, it could easily give me a really bad fucking injury. It can jump on me. I dont want to deal with any animal which is bigger than half of my body. Dogs are butchers. I dont want a dog thinking it could kill someone around me to protect me, either. I dont want an animal that could kill humans, basically.
Female golden retrievers get to maybe 60lbs. They are small and not very strong. While my girl isn't completely full grown yet, I can manhandle her like she was small child. She loves to wrestle and if she starts going a little too hard and I want her to stop, its easy as fuck to subdue her. ---
