Why would the corporation Google be any more trustworthy with this than any other ISP?

Because people still remember a time 10 years ago when Google was supposedly "the good company" - when their company motto was literally "Don't be evil" - and imply that they were deliberately more ethical than other large tech companies like Microsoft.

Of course, to anyone paying attention, those times are long fucking gone (if they ever really existed in the first place), because Google is constantly doing shady shit these days. But reputations are slow to change, even in the digital age.

So yeah, there's still a lot of rubes out there who seem to have the impression that Google would be consumer-friendly even in a scenario where they have all the cards and can pressure you into whatever predatory situation they might like.

Ironically, a lot of those same people who still love Google will happily shit on YouTube and everything it's been doing for the past few years, yet never seem to connect that to the fact that Google owns YouTube in their brains. Because if there's one thing the Internet is REALLY good at, it's doublethink.
