As for Snoke not being explained? Meh, doesn't bug me much. Think of how much we knew of the Emperor in the OT and how much we know of Snoke. Pretty much the same amount.

I really wanted an explanation for Snoke because of the lack of thematic purpose given to the rise of the First Order. They needed something to tie it all back to the rest of the lore (movies or extended) instead of only being "the empire's back because we just need an antagonist". But now Snoke is some random super powerful force user who just kinda shows up into the mix from nowhere instead of being some grand orchestrator. The timeline doesn't even make sense now with Snoke giving off this "old evil" vibe yet he was completely off the force radar for the duration of the entire first 6 movies.

I also don't like how they changed his character's tone from being dark, ominous, and cryptic to a bit more extravagant and warlordish with his gold tunic and more direct mannerisms.

There's still one more movie to give him some significance and tie the whole series together (there's still room for him to be Plagueis considering he had been killed once before) but I doubt they'll do anything with him considering his death was a means of placing Kylo at the head of the antagonist chain.
