Education plays a part in that too. Educated people with comfortable lives understand the strain a child would place on them, economically, socially, and in terms of a time investment.

The economics and time investment are commonly known, but the social aspect tends to blindside some people. Once you have children your entire social circle as you know it can be upended. You might not be able to spend time having fun and enjoying the night life with your single friends, and instead end up with other parents occupying a new friend circle.

The common complaint you might hear from a parent is, "I love my kids but hate my life."
