As someone who's lived in both places, I don't really buy the stereotype that the south is more racist. Up in new england there are a hell of a lot less black and hispanic people, and people out in the country don't seem any different from rural folk down south. Different accent, but that's about it. Saying you're less racist because you don't have any people that look different from you isn't saying much. All that said, I don't think I've ever been in a "racist" place in my life. Maybe in Asia, but that's not really the same kind of racism that people talk about here. People in small towns have generally been nice and friendly no matter what part of the country I'm in, but maybe it's different if you live there. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
